College Experience

What will your college experience look like as an Social Work major?

Career preparation: You can expect to receive excellent training from our knowledgeable and skilled faculty. Our faculty are dedicated to your success.

Field training: As part of your curriculum, you will engage in field education and take the skills you learn in the classroom into the community. Some portions of classes involve practicing skills by helping people with basic needs such as food, housing, medical support, or mental health.

Campus life: You will have the opportunity to participate in campus wide events and smaller gatherings hosted by the social work club. We help our students build a support system through relationships with peers, faculty, and staff to enhance their experiences at WWU.


Career Path

What can your career path as a Social Work major look like?

Your social work degree will prepare you for entry into a wide variety of roles in the social work profession, whether in a clinic, school, courtroom, or nonprofit. Many social workers pursue graduate level degrees to achieve greater career options and higher pay.

Earning a master’s or doctorate in social work will allow you to pursue leadership roles, private practice, teaching positions in higher education, research opportunities, and many other careers.
