Biology Major (Bachelor of Science)
Students who earn a B.S. in biology do research on living organisms, cells, or biological molecules. Most biologists go on to study a specialized area within the life sciences, including marine biology, limnology, biochemistry, botany, microbiology, physiology, zoology, ecology, agricultural science, molecular biology, immunology, or neurobiology. One summer term at Rosario Beach Marine Laboratory is required.
Human Biology (Bachelor of Science)
Students who earn a B.S. in human biology study human biology and behavior. Core classes are geared toward competencies desired by health professional schools, and electives allow students to explore various interests. This major is among the best to prepare you for medical school or other health professions.
Marine Biology Major (Bachelor of Science)
Students who earn a B.S. in marine biology are well-prepared for careers in conservation, research, and education. Students will spend two summers at WWU’s premiere marine laboratory on the Salish Sea and get direct access to hands-on opportunities and custom research equipment.
Biochemistry Major (Bachelor of Science)
This is an interdisciplinary program that draws heavily from courses in cellular and molecular biology to complement a broad background in chemistry. This major is among the best to prepare you for medical or pharmacy school.
Bioenginering Science Major (Bachelor of Science)
Students who earn a B.S. in bioengineering are prepared to pursue advanced studies in bioengineering, medicine, dentistry, public health, or physiology. It is not designed for students desiring to enter directly into the practice of professional engineering following their undergraduate study.
Biophysics Major (Bachelor of Science)
Students who earn a B.S. in biophysics are best prepared for a career in medicine or research, and in molecular biology. They develop a strong foundation for advanced study into the physics of living systems. Biophysics includes a strong mathematical preparation coupled with problem solving skills and an understanding of fundamental physical processes.
